Up until the mid-1960s most people could only afford very basic camera equipment. So when on holiday, there was always the need to take home a more professional photograph of themselves. In the late 1940s my father Alf Grey set up a novelty photographic studio in the resort of Douglas on the Isle of Man. The famous set was essentially a mock-up English pub in which groups of holiday - makers enjoyed themselves.
